Meet Our 2018 Speakers

David Brown

CEO, Techstars


David is a serial entrepreneur who has founded three startups and been involved with two others. He is one of the original founders of Pinpoint Technologies, Inc. which is now part of ZOLL Medical Corporation and provides solutions to the emergency medical services market. He was President of the company from founding through over $50M per year in revenue and over 250 people.

David later co-founded Techstars along with David Cohen, Brad Feld, and Jared Polis. He has been an investor and advisor to Techstars since inception. In 2013, he joined Techstars in a more active role, overseeing global operations.

David has a B.Sc. degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. As a ski instructor in the past, David still enjoys hitting the slopes on a good powder day.

Joseph Lubin

Founder, Ethereum


Joseph Lubin is a co-founder of blockchain computing platform Ethereum and the founder of Consensus Systems, a blockchain venture studio.

ConsenSys is one of the largest and fastest-growing companies in the blockchain technology space, building developer tools, decentralized applications, and solutions for enterprises and governments that harness the power of Ethereum. Headquartered in New York, ConsenSys also has a global presence, employing top entrepreneurs, computer scientists, software developers, and experts in enterprise delivery worldwide.

Lubin graduated from Princeton University with a degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He worked in the Princeton Robotics Lab, at Tomandandy music developing an autonomous music composition tool, and at private research firm Vision Applications Inc. building autonomous mobile robots.
As a software engineer and consultant, Lubin worked with eMagine on the Identrus project and was involved in the founding and operation of a hedge fund with a partner. He held positions as Director of the New York office of Blacksmith Software Consulting, and VP of Technology in Private Wealth Management at Goldman Sachs. Through these posts, Lubin focused on the intersection of cryptography, engineering, and finance.
Switching gears, Lubin moved to Kingston, Jamaica to work on projects in the music industry. Two years into his musical endeavors, Lubin co-founded the Ethereum Project and has been working on Ethereum and ConsenSys since January, 2014.

Neal Cross



Neal Cross is Managing Director and Chief Innovation Officer of DBS Bank and a strong advocate for innovative thinking and culture.

Cross is driving the bank’s innovation agenda regionally, as DBS moves to shape the future of banking, to enhance customer experience and better engage customers in the digital landscape. Cross has more than 20 years’ experience in technology, innovation, and financial services.

Working with internal stakeholders and external collaborators, he charts the innovation roadmap for DBS to enhance customer experience and better engages the bank’s customers in the digital landscape. On the back of our recent “World’s Best Digital Bank” accolade, Neal won the “Most Disruptive” CIO global award by impressing judges Steve Wozniak and Sir Richard Branson at the finals of the Talent Unleashed Awards 2016.

Previous to DBS, Cross was at MasterCard, where he was responsible for driving innovation as Vice President of MasterCard Labs in the company’s Asia/Pacific, Middle East and Africa regions.  Cross started working in the Asia time zone at Microsoft in Australia and later in Singapore as the financial services industry director.

On his weekends Neal lives in the Sumatran jungle where he has founded Hotel Orangutan, a social enterprise to help save the critically endangered Sumatran Orangutan and to give local villagers employment and education.

Maneerut Anulomsombut

CEO, SEA (Garena)


Nok Maneerut Anulomsombut joined our company in March 2014 and has served as our chief executive officer of Thailand since March 2016. Nok previously served as our chief operating officer of Thailand. Prior to joining our company, Nok was a management consultant at The Boston Consulting Group in Bangkok from March 2009 to February 2014.

Prior to joining The Boston Consulting Group, Nok worked at financial and fashion companies in Thailand. Nok holds an M.B.A. degree from Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business and a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering from Chulalongkorn University in Thailand.

Kulika Chomvong

CEO, Sugarlogix


Kulika is a co-founder and CEO at Sugarlogix, a biotech company recreating human breast milk sugars as functional ingredients for gut health solutions. She has a unique and diverse background in both science and business.

She received her Ph.D. in microbiology from UC Berkeley, where she studied yeast metabolic pathways. Her undergraduate training in chemical engineering and at the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania has given her insight into the business and industrial biotech domains. Her wide range of background allows her to deeply understand the science in the lab, its application, and also the following business implications.

Mike Peng

Co-Founder & Co-Managing Director, IDEO Tokyo


Mike Peng is a Partner at IDEO and the co-managing director and co-founder of IDEO Tokyo. In his role, Mike works with colleagues to set the strategic direction of the business in Japan, mentor designers, create new offerings, and lead client relationships and projects in Asia. Prior to Tokyo, Mike helped start-up IDEO’s New York office and lead its design research discipline. Mike has taught at New York University’s Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service and Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design (CIID). He’s also a visiting lecture the at University of Tokyo, Keio University, and Kyushu University. Mike graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, with a degree in cognitive science and an emphasis in neuroscience.

Pieter Kemps

Principal, Sequoia Capital


Pieter Kemps serves as an Investment Advisor at Sequoia Capital India. He is the Principal at Sequoia Capital. He was a Vice President at the firm in 2014 and focuses on investments in internet, mobile, software, and infrastructure across South East Asia. He works closely with Kfit, Sirion Labs, Gojek, Tokopedia, Zilingo and other portfolio companies. Prior to joining Sequoia, Pieter was at Amazon Web Services, where he was responsible for Amazon’s business with the leading VC’s, Accelerators, and the startup ecosystem across Asia.

Peng T Ong

Founder, Monk's Hill Ventures


Peng is an entrepreneur who invests in entrepreneurs. He does so primarily through his role as Managing Partner at Monk&’s Hill Ventures — a technology venture fund based in Southeast Asia that he co-founded.
Peng was the co-founder and CTO of Match.com (acquired by IAC). After Match.com, he was the founder and CEO of Interwoven, which went public on NASDAQ and grew to a $10B market cap, before being acquired and is now part of HP.

After Interwoven, Peng founded Encentuate (acquired by IBM). Most recently, Peng was a Partner at GSR Ventures, a leading VC in China. Peng has also served on many boards, including SingTel and YY.com. He is currently the Chairman of SolveEducation!. Peng earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas and an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Illinois.

Akiko Naka

Founder and CEO, Wantedly

Akiko Naka is the founder and chief executive officer of Wantedly, a social-networking service for professionals. Following its official launch in February 2012, Wantedly grew to 2m monthly active users and 25,000 corporates and has become the leading professional social-networking service in Japan. Prior to founding Wantedly, Ms. Naka was a growth co-ordinator at Facebook Japan, where she contributed to marketing and product development for Facebook in Japan. Before joining Facebook, she worked at Goldman Sachs in equity sales. Ms. Naka graduated from Kyoto University in 2008 with a BA in economics.

Yinglan Tan

CEO & Founding Managing Partner, Insignia Venture Partners


Tan Yinglan founded Insignia Venture Partners in 2017, an early stage technology venture fund focusing on Southeast Asia. Prior to founding Insignia Venture Partners, Yinglan was Sequoia Capital’s first hire and Venture Partner in Southeast Asia. He sourced multiple investment opportunities for Sequoia including Tokopedia, Go-jek, Traveloka, Carousell, Appier (where he represented Sequoia on the board), Dailyhotel (where he represented Sequoia on the board), Pinkoi and 99.co.

Yinglan had also been a member of the elite Singapore Administrative Service, where he served in a variety of positions in the Prime Minister’s Office (where he was part of a team that managed a $360 million fund for innovation and enterprise), Ministry of Trade and Industry and Ministry of Defence. Yinglan was also the founding Director of 3i Venturelab China, a joint venture between private equity firm 3i (LSE: III) and INSEAD.

Yinglan has been named as a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader (2012 – 2017), a WEF Technology Pioneer Selection Committee Panel (2015-2017), Top “40 leaders under 40” by Prestige Magazine (2015), Milken Institute Young Leaders Circle (2016), one of 100 Leaders of Tomorrow by the St Gallen Symposium (2010), 100 Global Thinkers (2011) by think-tank Lo Spazio della Politica, a World Cities Summit Young Leader (2014), a WEF Global Agenda Council member on Fostering Entrepreneurship (2011-2013) and a Kauffman Fellow.

He also serves on the Singapore Government’s Pro Enterprise Panel and the Committee on the Future Economy’s Sub-Committee on Future Corporate Capabilities and Innovation. Yinglan is an Adjunct Associate Professor at National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University. He is also a Strategic Research Innovation Fund Investment Committee Member at Nanyang Technology University, author of 3 books – The Way Of the VC (Wiley, 2009), Chinnovation (Wiley 2010) and textbook New Venture Creation – An Asian Perspective (Mcgraw Hill 2011). Yinglan was educated at Harvard, Stanford and Carnegie Mellon.

Grace Yun Xia

Principle, Jungle Ventures


Grace’s has over a decade of experience in investment, corporate strategy and business development across early-stage startups and Fortune 500 companies in both Silicon Valley and emerging markets in Asia. At Jungle Ventures she focuses on identifying innovative startups in Asia and cross-border investment opportunities.

Prior to joining Jungle Ventures, she was Senior Director of Corporate Strategy and Investment at Tencent. In this role, she focused on identifying strategic opportunities in emerging markets, building Tencent’s overseas product ecosystem through investments and collaborations with local partners; and overseeing the implementation of deals and capital deployment.

A Kauffman Fellow, Grace started her career as a management consultant where she advised clients in financial sectors. Grace has an MBA in strategy and decision science from Fuqua School of Business, Duke University.

Jacqueline Alexis Thng

Partner , Prophet


Jacqueline is a Partner of Prophet in Hong Kong. For over 20 years she has helped clients develop and implement profitable growth strategies across diverse industries both on a global and regional basis. Jacqueline’s expertise includes strategic branding, marketing and sales strategies, business model and product innovation, customer experience as well integrated marketing communications including digital. She was recently bestowed as one of the World’s Most Influential Marketing Leaders 2015 by World Marketing Congress.

Jacqueline has led many complex reorganization and rebranding projects that involve brand strategy, brand portfolio and architecture. These included United Engineers Group in Singapore, UMW (Malaysia), Celcom (Malaysia), Malaysia Airlines, Fullerton Financial Holdings (part of Temasek Singapore), PSA, NOL and Bank Mandiri. Other clients have included Sime Darby, Petronas, Vodafone, Ericsson, Philips, Telkom (Indonesia), Airtel (India), Limitless (Dubai), Vertu (Nokia), CapitaLand, DBS Bank, Sara Lee, PSA, Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore Aerospace and China Airlines.

Prior to Prophet, she was Managing Director of Brand Union (WPP) and CEO of Lexis Branding where she grew the strategy and branding practice of both agencies. She also led Brand Union to win Brand Consultancy of the year. She is a prominent speaker at conferences and contributes regularly to regional media. Jacqueline was one of the top graduates on the Dean List of National University of Singapore with a Degree in Business Administration majoring in corporate finance, marketing and business policy.

Cao Yin

CSO, Energy Blockchain Labs


Mr. Cao Yin is the Founding Partner and Chief Strategy Officer of the Energy Blockchain Labs, the world first company focused on blockchain technology energy and green finance application.He also is the Chief Expert of Blockchain of China Cinda Security, which is the IBD of China Cinda, the biggest finance asset mgt. the company in China.

Mr. Cao Yin is one of the earliest proponents of the energy Internet concept in China. He participated in the formulation of China’s national definition of Energy Internet and participated in the formulation and popularization of China’s National Energy Internet Action Plan as one of the leaders of the task force. Mr. Cao has written several books, including 《Development of Energy Internet》,《Introduction of Energy Internet》, he also has written a book <Internet+: National Strategic Action Roadmap> with Mr. Ma Huateng, the Chairman of Tencent Group.

Cao is China’s 9th E-resident member of E-Estonia project, he assists the Estonian Government to design and promote the Digital Nation action plan and the Estcoin plan. Cao is the Guest Lecturer of Beijing National Accounting Institute and Guest Speaker of Shanghai National Accounting Institute.

Cao is the key member of the Hyperledger China Working Group.
Mr. Cao is a well-known keynote speaker at multiple domestic and international energy, climate change, blockchain and cryptocurrency conferences. His point of views has been often published in leading industry and business media, covering topics related to the future energy system, carbon market, green finance, blockchain and cryptos insights, etc.

Gregory Perez

Design Director, IDEO Tokyo


Greg is a Design Director at IDEO Tokyo specializing in brand strategy, digital experience and communications design. His work at IDEO has included accelerating startups in Tokyo, building internal innovation capabilities for Australian corporations, and rethinking governmental service design in Singapore.

His craft is the ability to translate human experiences and insights into business impact through vivid stories which connect products and services to people’s lives. Prior to IDEO, Greg was a product designer at Microsoft in Redmond, Washington and Shanghai, China, where lead interaction design for their news, mapping, search and mobile platform offerings. Greg holds dual Journalism and Advertising/PR degrees from the University of South Carolina-Columbia.

Tiwa York

Founder, Kaidee


Tiwa York is the Head Coach of Kaidee (a.k.a CEO). He is passionate about changing lives through trading second-hand goods, startups, and building great teams. Along with a team of 5 awesome people, Tiwa founded an online marketplace which is now known as Kaidee in 2011.

Today, Kaidee is a C2C online marketplace with 200 thousand monthly sellers, listing 1.8 million items for sale and reaching 7 million people per month. In 2016, 2 million items were sold via Kaidee valued at over 2.4 billion USD. Tiwa has been recognized for his passion, his leadership, and his efforts to build the team and culture at Kaidee. Prior to his the current role, he worked in digital advertising with leadership roles in Admax Network and Omnicom Media Group.

David Jou



David Jou is co-founder and CEO of Pomelo, the leading online fast fashion brand in Southeast Asia.  David previously co-founded Lazada where he served as Managing Director. During his tenure, Lazada Thailand grew to be one of the leading online shopping sites in Thailand. Prior to Lazada, David was at Bain & Company in New York and New Mountain Capital, a $10 Billion Private Equity fund based in New York.

Nicholas Ho

Deputy Managing Director, hpa


Award-winning architect Nicholas Ho currently serves as Deputy Managing Director of hpa (previously known as Ho & Partners Architects Engineers & Development Consultants Ltd.), a leading multi-disciplinary architectural practice headquartered in Hong Kong (branch offices in Shanghai, Shenzhen and Kuala Lumpur) and a Strategic Partner of HKTDC’s Belt and Road-related promotions. Prior to that, Ho had worked under a number of renowned international architects, bringing with him years of design experience across Europe, China, Southeast Asia and the Middle East. With his wealth of knowledge, insight, and hands on experience, particularly on strategic development opportunities, infrastructure and urbanism works, Ho is the alternate representative of Hong Kong, China (HKC) to APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC), member of Trade and Industry Advisory Board (TIAB), member of Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) Belt and Road Committee and the convener of its Professional Services Working Group, Council member of Hong Kong Institute of Architects (HKIA), member of the HKSAR Economic Development Commission – Working Group on Professional Services and Council member of Lingnan University. Ho has served as an executive committee member of the China Real Estate Chamber of Commerce (HK & International Chapter).


Ho expanded hpa with a strong presence in Southeast Asia, establishing a practice, hpa Design Studio (SE Asia) Sdn. Bhd., headquartered in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Under his dedicated leadership, the firm has undertaken major commissions celebrated for its comprehensive property service offerings – from architectural and interior design to city planning, from development consultancy to investment advisory, providing a one-stop development platform for private and public institutions.


Ho has a keen interest in exporting Hong Kong professional services abroad, as exemplified by his current projects across Southeast Asia, Europe, and the USA. Aligning with the PRC’s mandate to develop the Belt and Road Initiative, he has been actively traveling across the region to build and promote partnership alliances along the New Silk Road.

Kamran Elahian

Founder and Chairman, Global Innovation Catalyst


Kamran also serves as Global Innovation Advisor, 500 Startups; Founding Mentor, Unreasonable Group, and Unchartered; Advisory Member, UNICEF Innovation Fund; Advisory Member, Seedstars World; Founding Board Advisor, Harbour. Space University; Chairman, Advisory Board, Global Venture Alliance.

As an Innovation Catalyst, Kamran advises various governments on the needed transition from fossil-based economies to sustainable innovation economies. As a global high-tech entrepreneur, he co-founded ten companies, three of them failed (e.g. Momenta), six of them produced a total market cap of over $8B (e.g. Cirrus Logic). As a VC, Kamran co-founded Global Catalyst Partners with investments in the U.S., Japan, China, India, Israel, and Singapore. Underlying his vision for global philanthropy is the conviction that modern Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) can be instrumental in dissolving barriers between nations and bridging the social and political differences among people. This vision was reflected in Schools-Online, a nonprofit he co-founded in 1996 to connect the world, one school at a time (6400 schools in 36 countries were provided with computers and access to the Internet) and merged with Relief International in 2003; Global Catalyst Foundation, co-founded in 2000 to improve lives through the effective application of ICT, and UN-GAID, a United Nations global forum that promotes ICT in developing countries where he served as Co-Chairman (2009-2011).

Barak Sharabi

Chief Global Strategy, Infinity Technologies Pte


A Strategic Tech Advisor, an angel investor, an ecosystem builder, a mentor in various accelerators and institutes, a tech regional expert with a wide network and an entrepreneur at heart.

Barak was born and raised in Tel Aviv, Israel, traveled throughout the world’s continents, holds 3 degrees in Law, Business and Diplomacy and Security.

In the public service, Barak served in the Israeli Air-force and years later in the Government of Israel as the Head of the Economic and Trade Mission at the Israeli Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand, covering Thailand, Myanmar and Cambodia.

Prior to serving as an Israeli diplomat in South East Asia, Barak worked in various positions in the private sector, from strategic consultancy and investments in global markets, ICT and Medical technologies and IP, Antitrust and Commercial Agreements.

Barak has various interests from Innovation and Entrepreneurship to International Relations and Defense as well as extreme Sports

Micheal Cluzel

Co-Founder and CEO, eatigo International Pte. Ltd.


Born in Germany in 1973, Michael has enjoyed a multinational career as a business leader across 4 continents and 4 industries.

After graduating from the oldest university in Germany (Heidelberg University) with a Master of Arts in Economics in 1999, Michael went on a journey that took him to Switzerland, Germany, Thailand, China, Paraguay, Lao PDR, Vietnam, the Caribbean and back to Thailand.

After accumulating a wealth of experience working for Global Fortune 500 companies, such as Coca-Cola (Food & Beverages), Henkel (Cosmetics), and Vimpelcom (Telecommunications), Michael became a CEO at just 33 years of age. He quickly carved out a reputation for himself as a creative, charismatic, and highly successful business leader running businesses that had yearly turnovers of up to 700M USD.

Michael is currently the co-founder and CEO of eatigo, the leading online reservation platform for restaurants in Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. The eatigo connects empty stomachs with empty tables via time-based discounts and with the help of yield management algorithms. A relentless visionary in business, Michael unwinds by playing golf, running Marathons and spending time with his wife, Aimee, and his two children, MJ and Aiana.

Esther Loewy

Founder and CEO, Upround Ventures


Esther is an accomplished business leader offering extensive startup and corporate experience. She strives to be a dynamic and creative deal-maker, working well with Asian corporations as well as the strongest of Israeli entrepreneurs.

Esther established Upround Ventures four years ago, having never stepped foot in Asia prior to late 2013. She has since built a network of leading enterprises in SE Asia, Australia and China, representing a variety of industries including retail, finance, e-commerce and logistics.

Enterprises in APAC turn to her for disruptive Israeli Innovation and access to the best Israeli startups. She is honored to work with exciting Israeli startups in a range of fields: AI, AR/VR, Cyber, e-Commerce/Retail Tech, FinTech, EnergyTech and more. He also holds a Blue Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Master Renzo Gracie. Chatri Sityodtong holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA from Tufts University.
